Hakusan Himemi Shrine

The head shrine of the Hakusan faith, which regards the sacred peak of Mount Hakusan as its divine body. It is the head shrine for approximately 3,000 Hakusan shrines across Japan and is affectionately known locally as 'Shirayama-san'. The shrine grounds, towering with 1,000-year-old cedar and Asunaro trees, exude a solemn atmosphere. The treasure museum houses numerous shrine treasures, including Important Cultural Properties. The main hall (honden), designated as a Tangible Cultural Property by Ishikawa Prefecture, along with the approach path designated as a Place of Scenic Beauty by the city, and the ancient cedar and large zelkova trees designated as Natural Monuments by the city, all convey the dignity of this ancient shrine.
