This course follows the 'Ryukyu Hassha,' eight shrines that were granted special veneration by the royal court during the Ryukyu Kingdom era. Beginning with Naminoue-gu (the General Shrine of Okinawa), you can experience the unique faith and history of Okinawa, which differs from the mainland, including shrines nestled in caves and on cliffside locations.
Most of the shrines are scattered around Naha City, but the eighth shrine, Kinutaku-gu, is enshrined within a limestone cave on the grounds of Kinutaku Kannon-ji temple in northern Kinutaku Town. Due to the wide geographical area, traveling by car is highly recommended.

歴史・由来
The Ryukyu Hassha are eight shrines that received special veneration from the royal court during the Ryukyu Kingdom era. While Utaki (sacred groves) worship was originally the center of faith in Okinawa, it eventually merged with beliefs brought from the mainland, such as Kumano faith. These shrines, protected by the royal court, have been preserved to this day as the 'Ryukyu Hassha.'

Naminoue-gu, the General Shrine of Okinawa, sits atop a cliff overlooking Naminoue Beach in Naha; its vermilion-painted buildings set against the backdrop of the blue sea are striking. Futenma-gu features a limestone cave behind the main hall, which is also open for worship. A major charm of the Ryukyu Hassha is how many shrines are integrated with Okinawa's natural landscape, situated on cliffs, in caves, or atop stone steps in the forest.
Seven of the eight shrines are located around Naha, while Kinutaku-gu is in northern Kinutaku Town. Traveling by car is recommended.
