Atsuta Jingu (Atsuta Grand Shrine)

A highly revered shrine, second only to Ise Jingu, which enshrines the Kusanagi no Tsurugi (the Sword of the Grass-Cutting), one of the Three Sacred Treasures of Japan.
Overview
The enshrined deity is Atsuta no Okami, who represents Amaterasu Omikami (the Sun Goddess) as the spiritual vessel for the Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the Three Sacred Treasures. It is said that during his eastern expedition, Yamato Takeru no Mikoto entrusted this sword to his consort, Miyasusuhi no Mikoto, who then enshrined it in the land of Atsuta, marking the beginning of the shrine's history which spans approximately 1,900 years. The sacred grounds are filled with large camphor trees exceeding 1,000 years in age. The Treasure House and the Kusanagi-kan (Sword Treasury) exhibit approximately 450 famous swords.
