Overview

The primary shrine of the Japanese people, enshrining Amaterasu Omikami. It is known for the purification at the Isuzu River, the approach lined with Jingu-sugi (sacred cedar trees), and the Shikinen Sengu (the ritual rebuilding of the shrine every 20 years). Traditionally, the pilgrimage of Oise-mairi follows the order of the Geku (Toyouke Daijingu) first, followed by the Naiku.
