Overview

The shrine enshrines Okuninushi no Mikoto and is famous for the 'Kamiari-zuki' (Month of the Gods), when eight million deities gather in October of the lunar calendar. It is also well-known for the massive Shimenawa (sacred rice-straw rope) at the Kagura-den (sacred dance hall) and its unique worship ritual of 'two bows, four claps, and one bow.' It is said that the 'en' (connections/bonds) of Izumo Taisha govern not only romantic relationships but all types of connections in life.
