Overview

This site represents one of the oldest forms of worship in Japan, where Mount Miwayama itself, standing at an altitude of 467 meters, serves as the Goshintai. Omiwa Jinja does not have a honden (main hall); instead, worshippers perform yohai (distant worship) of Mount Miwayama from the back of the haiden (worship hall). It is also possible to perform tohai (mountain worship) by registering at Sayai Jinja, though this is a form of ascetic training where photography and private conversation are prohibited.
