Haguro-san (Mount Haguro)

Standing at an altitude of 414 meters, this mountain represents the "present world" (Utsushiyo) of the Dewa Sanzan (Three Mountains of Dewa) and houses the oldest National Treasure five-story pagoda in the Tohoku region.
Overview
At an altitude of 414 meters, Haguro-san is the mountain of the "present world" (Utsushiyo), forming the Dewa Sanzan along with Yudon-san (the future) and Gassan (the past). The Sangin-Gousai-den (Hall of the Three Combined Deities) at the summit enshrines the deities of all three mountains together. Along the approach to the honden (main hall) from the Zuig<audio|>, which consists of approximately 2,446 stone steps, stands the National Treasure Haguro-san Goju-no-to (five-story pagoda). Rebuilt in the 15th century and standing 29 meters tall, it is the oldest of its kind in the Tohoku region. Unlike Gassan and Yudon-san, which close during the winter, Haguro-san remains open for worship throughout the year, serving as the starting point for visiting the Dewa Sanzan.
