The highest-ranking shrine among the Ryukyu Hassha (Eight Shrines of Ryukyu) and the general guardian deity of the Ryukyu Kingdom, situated atop a cliff.
Overview
The enshrined deities are Isahime-no-Mikoto, Hayatama-no-Mikoto, and Kotohime-no-Mikoto (the three deities of Kumano Gongen). Occupying the highest rank of the Ryukyu Hassha, where prayers were offered for national peace and bountiful harvests during the Ryukyu Kingdom era, it was revered as the general guardian of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The shrine features a unique landscape with vermilion-painted buildings perched on a cliff overlooking the emerald-green Naminoue Beach, making it one of Okinawa's premier power spots. Locally, it is affectionately known as Nanmin-san.
