A component of the Mount Fuji World Heritage site, where the subterranean water of Mount Fuji flows down like silk threads.
Overview
An elegant waterfall where groundwater from Mount Fuji flows through layers of lava, cascading down a wide rock face approximately 20 meters high and 200 meters wide in numerous strands resembling silk threads. It boasts a water volume of about 1.5 tons per second. Designated as a National Scenic Spot and Natural Monument in 1936, it was also registered as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2013 as a component of "Fujisan - Sacred Place and Source of Artistic Inspiration." This waterfall of spiritual water (reisu) has been revered since ancient times as a site for ascetic training and purification (misogi) for the Fuji-ko (Mount Fuji worship groups).
