Overview

As the head shrine of all Suwa shrines nationwide, it has gathered worship for over a thousand years as a deity of valor and bountiful harvests. It is famous for the Onbashira (sacred pillars) at the four corners of the shrine grounds, and the Onbashira Matsuri (Sacred Pillar Festival) held every seven years is one of the greatest festivals in the country. It preserves the nature worship of the Shintaizan (sacred mountain) and Moriya-san, and maintains an ancient architectural style that does not feature a honden (main hall).
