Zenko-ji (Temple)

A famous saying says, "One must visit Zenko-ji at least once in a lifetime." It is an ancient temple that welcomes everyone regardless of sect.
Overview
The primary deity is the secret Buddha "Ikkō Sanzon Amida Nyorai" (the oldest Buddhist statue in Japan). Founded approximately 1,400 years ago, it has been believed to guide anyone—regardless of gender or social status—to the Pure Land as a non-sectarian temple. Currently, it is maintained and managed by both the Tendai and Jodo sects. The main hall (honden) is a National Treasure rebuilt in 1707 CE (Hōei 4). The "Okaidan Meguri" (circumambulating the dark corridor beneath the main hall floor) is a famous and unique method of worship to establish a spiritual connection with the primary deity.
