History

In 1161 CE (Eiho 1), Taira no Kiyomori constructed the shrine buildings, and the Taira clan subsequently maintained deep reverence for the site. In 1582 CE (Tenshō 10), Emperor Go-Yōzei bestowed an imperial plaque and paintings of the three imperial regalia upon the shrine. In 1877 CE (Meiji 10), it was elevated to the status of a prefectural shrine. During the Great Kobe Air Raid of 1945 CE (Shōwa 20), all treasures and other valuables were destroyed by fire.
