Founded in 1475, this Jodo Shinshu Honganji-ha temple was originally located in Kyoto. In the early Edo period, it became part of the Hamacho Gobo temple complex established by Nishi Honganji. It shared its history with Tsukiji Honganji until the early Showa period. Due to damage sustained during the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, the temple separated from Tsukiji Honganji and relocated to its current site in 1928.
