History
This temple is associated with Emperor Daikaku (posthumous name of Emperor Go-Shirakawa). The main hall houses the principal seated statue of Senju Kannon along with 1,001 standing statues of Senju Kannon. It is affectionately known as 'Sanjusendō' (Hall of Thirty-Three Bays) after the length of the hall.
