Mie-ken Gokoku Shrine
〒514-0006 三重県津市広明町387
This shrine enshrines the spirits of over 63,000 war dead related to Mie Prefecture. In recent years, it has garnered deep reverence from both within and outside the prefecture as a guardian deity of Mie Prefecture and a god of children.
History
The shrine's origins date back to 1869, when Toudou Takayasu, the lord of the Tsu Domain, built a small shrine to enshrine the spirits of his retainers who died in the Boshin War. It became a state-sponsored shrine in 1874 and was relocated to its current site in 1909. In 1939, it was renamed Mie-ken Gokoku Shrine. Although the buildings were destroyed in an air raid in 1945, the shrine reverted to its original name in 1953.
