Kammiya Ichinomiya Oogi Shrine
〒771-3310 徳島県名西郡神山町神領西上角330
Located on Mount Oogi in Kamiyama Town, Tokushima Prefecture, this shrine is designated as the Ichinomiya (head shrine) of Awa Province. It is also the 73rd temple of the Shin-Shikoku Mandara Pilgrimage.
History
According to shrine tradition, the enshrined deity, Okuninushi-no-Kami (or Ogi-hime), arrived in Awa Province from Ise Province riding a horse and promoted the cultivation of millet. It is considered one of the candidate sites for the Engishiki Grand Shrine 'Awa Province, Nagakata District, Amenotomonobe-Yachihime Shrine'. The shrine adopted its current name in 1895 (Meiji 28). During the Heian period, a branch shrine named Ichinomiya Shrine was established in what is now Ichinomiya-cho, Tokushima City.
