The shrine was established in 1555 CE (Tenshō 1) by inviting a split spirit (bunrei) from the Hikawa Jinja, which was the first shrine of Musashi Province. Due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji period, the associated temple, Fukushō-ji, was abolished. In 1910 and 1914, several surrounding shrines were successively merged into this shrine.
