History
The temple originated in 1632 CE (Kan'ei 9) when Meiryo, the 13th abbot of Shoryo-ji, received the character 'gen' from Senior Priest Senju, took the name Senmyo, and established Kanenbo in the southwest corner of the grounds. In 1653 CE (Joyo 2), it was granted a temple name and became Fuenji. In 1815 CE (Bunka 12), Sakanobara Nagayoshi, the Hida District Magistrate, was buried here. The temple later relocated to its current site during the Showa era.
