In 1676 CE (Enpō 4), the monk Hokkyū Sogaku assumed the title 'Kantoku-ji,' changing the temple's name and inviting Besshū Soden as the founding abbot. The temple was revitalized during the Genroku era by the monk Dōun Sogusa and reached a peak of prosperity again during the Meiji period.
