The founding date is unknown. However, in ancient times, villagers caught a hawk and presented it to their lord, receiving a reward in return. Believing this success was due to the protection of kami and Buddhas, the villagers rejoiced greatly and enshrined a Buddha statue, marking the origin of the site. Originally called Hachiman-sha, it was renamed Hachiman-jinja on October 6, 1945 (Showa 20).
