Founded in 1672 CE (Kanbun 12) by the priest Hōin Seichō. It was established in response to a request from Iguchi Hachirōzaemon, who developed the local area. Originally named Ikkōin, it was renamed Iguchiin out of consideration for the founding Iguchi family.
