Senbon Tōshōgū (Senbon Tōshō Grand Shrine)

A shrine enshrining Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate, and one of the three great Tōshō shrines in Japan. The main hall (honden) of the current shrine buildings, completed in 1640 CE (Kan'ei 17), is a National Important Cultural Property.
What visitors say
The grand architectural complex, decorated in vibrant polychrome, is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. Buildings such as the main hall and the karamon (ornamental gate) feature three-dimensional decorations that convey the power and influence of the era. The stone staircase leading to the worship hall (haiden) has a somewhat steep incline, but historical stone lanterns are scattered throughout the grounds.
