Bingo Gokoku Shrine

Located on the north side of Fukuyama Castle, this shrine enshrines the heroic spirits of those from the former Bingo Province and the successive feudal lords of the Bingo Fukuyama Domain. History
In 1868 CE (Meiji 1), Abe Masatsune, the feudal lord of Fukuyama, founded a Chokonsa (Soul-Summoning Shrine) to enshrine the spirits of those who died in battle. In 1901 CE (Meiji 34), it was renamed the Official Fukuyama Chokonsa. In 1939 CE (Shōwa 14), it was renamed Fukuyama Gokoku Shrine, and in 1957 CE (Shōwa 32), it was renamed to its current name, Bingo Gokoku Shrine. The shrine buildings, which were destroyed by fire during the war, were restored in 1956 CE (Shōwa 31) by renovating and merging the main hall of Abe Shrine.
