He built the Hokke Daimeido (Hall of the Lotus Sutra Title) on this site. After Kousetsu's death, Nichiren priest Nichiji founded the temple in 1657 CE (Meirei 2), and it became known as Kouetsu-ji. The temple fell into disrepair during the Meiji era but was restored in the Taisho era.
