Founded around 1600 CE (Keicho 5) by the monk Keikan Agari. The main image, Jizo Bosatsu (Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva), is traditionally said to have been created in 1580 CE (Tensho 8) by the sculptor Tori. In 1984, it became the 58th station of the New Shikoku Saito 88 Sacred Sites, established in connection with commemorative events for the various schools of Shingon Buddhism.
