The shrine's origins are said to trace back to the Gushu Tenno Shrine, which served as the guardian shrine of the former village headman's Kato family residence. It was enshrined as the guardian deity of the Shimo-gumi district of Ichiba Village. It is believed to have been formally established in the mid-Edo period. Following the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in 1869 (Meiji 2), the shrine changed its name to Yasaka Shrine. During the Meiji period, the Inari Shrine, which had been enshrined atop the Nukazuka mound, was merged into this shrine.
