In 1648 CE, when Oka Domain Lord Toda Suetetsu rebuilt and renovated the shrine, the eighteen villages and ten districts of the castle town donated mikoshi (portable shrines), which became the origin of the annual festival known as the Oka Festival. The shrine buildings were destroyed in the 1945 air raids but were gradually restored between 1951 and 1955.
