According to shrine tradition, the shrine originated when the Heian-era warrior Kiso Yoshitsune carved a deity statue and erected a temporary shrine to pray for victory in battle. The shrine buildings collapsed during the 1948 regional earthquake, but were rebuilt over five years with the cooperation of the parishioners. In 1962, it became a branch shrine of Ise Chiyomiya Hachiman-gu.
