History

Founded by Matsudaira Kiyoyasu, the grandfather of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who received the enshrined deities from Rokusho Shrine in Matsudaira-go. As the birthplace deity of Tokugawa Ieyasu, it received strong protection from the Edo Shogunate. Between 1634 and 1636 CE (Kan'ei 11-13), the shrine buildings were reconstructed by order of Tokugawa Iemitsu. In 1910, it was merged with Takamiya Shrine, and in 1922, it was renamed to the current Rokusho Shrine.
