The temple began when Musuyama Yurinji was relocated to its current location. It fell into ruin during the Sengoku period and was burned to ashes by Oda Nobunaga's forces, but was subsequently moved to its present site by divine instruction. It suffered severe damage in the 1945 air raids and the 1995 Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, but has since been rebuilt and restored to its current state.
