History

The shrine was founded in 1876 (Meiji 9) when a divine spirit was enshrined from Izumo Taisha. In 1877 (Meiji 10), Chika Takafuku, the 80th Izumo Kuni-no-Miyatsuko (Provincial Governor), presided over the opening ceremony of the Daija Kyokai (Grand Shrine Church). The shrine buildings were destroyed during the Matsuyama air raid in 1945 (Showa 20). The worship hall (haiden) was rebuilt in 1963 (Showa 38), and the main shrine buildings were completed in 2001 (Heisei 13).
