In 1873 (Meiji 6), the name was changed from 'Kasa-den' to the current name. In 1908 (Meiji 41), sixteen neighboring shrines were merged into this one. Hirata Atsutane, a scholar of the late Edo period, recorded that the shrine was efficacious for curing ailments such as swellings.
