In 1591 CE (Tenshō 19), the monk Keisō entered the temple and received a Goshuin (a shrine's calligraphic seal stamp) from Tokugawa Ieyasu granting a temple estate of 20 koku. Despite repeated destruction by fire during the Genkō Rebellion and other disasters, the temple has been rebuilt and restored, continuing to the present day.
