History
In 1661, Nakaieji Chizaburō, a low-ranking samurai, had a prophetic dream in which the deity Inari descended to Fujikubo. He sent timber from Kii Province to establish the shrine. During the early Meiji period, due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism, the monks of Tōjōin, which had served as the head temple (bettōji), renounced their vows and became shrine priests. In 1907, as part of a shrine merger, two shrines that had been subsidiary shrines within the grounds of the former head temple were merged into this shrine.
