In 1883 (Meiji 16), when Wada Ikujiro traveled from Hiroshima Prefecture to Hokkaido, he received a portion of the divine spirit and built a small shrine, praying for the success of land reclamation and the protection of the settlers. Subsequently, a temporary shrine hall was built to welcome settlers from Hiroshima Prefecture. The main shrine buildings were constructed in 1886 (Meiji 19) and expanded in 1890 (Meiji 23). The current shrine buildings were constructed in December 1980 (Showa 55).
