History
It is said that Hojo Tenman Shrine already existed in 1053 CE (Tenki 1). A warrior monk who defeated a giant weasel that once threatened the village was enshrined as a benefactor of the community. Subsequently, rituals such as 'Mito o neru' (carrying the sacred object) and the Bisha-kou association began. Until the Meiji era, a temple named Shokaku-in stood within the shrine grounds, but it has since disappeared.
