History

Due to repeated floods of the Nonogawa River, the Tenjin Shrine, which had been enshrined in the Tenjin forest of Yakoguchi Village, was frequently washed down to this area. In 1849 CE (Kaei 2), after negotiations with Yakoguchi Village, it was merged with the local Suwa Shrine. On this occasion, the shrine was reportedly renamed Kitano Shrine.

What visitors say

Located on the south side of the Nonogawa River, this shrine is characterized by a worship style where visitors descend a set of stairs to pass through the torii gate. The grounds are planted with many trees, creating a scenery where the main hall is partially hidden by the foliage, and offering beautiful views of plum and cherry blossoms. The shrine buildings are new, having been rebuilt after the war, giving the site a bright atmosphere.
