Anbo Shrine

According to tradition, the shrine was founded by the Imbe clan, who migrated from the Awa region during the mythological era. The names of Awa Province and the shrine are said to originate from this clan's pioneering efforts. In ancient times, it was regarded as the central shrine of Awa Province and was responsible for rituals even under the Ritsuryo (legal and administrative) system. From the medieval period onward, it was designated as the Ichinomiya of Awa Province, and even after the Meiji Restoration, it maintained its status as a Kanpei Taisha (Grand Shrine under Imperial patronage).
