History
Founded in 1467 CE (Ōnin 1) by Honshoin Nichigo in Anjo, Mikawa Province, it was later relocated to Okazaki. In 1591 CE (Tenshō 19), it accompanied Tokugawa Ieyasu's entry into Edo and moved to Uchikōmachi. In 1648 CE (Keian 1), it relocated to Shintemachi, Shitaya, Edo, becoming a major temple. Although it was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo air raids, it was relocated to its current location in 1951 CE (Shōwa 26).
