History
It is said that the temple was founded by the monk Gyoji on a high plateau of Tomari Mountain during the reign of Emperor Shomu. When Emperor Kazan visited the temple and stayed overnight on his return journey, a bright light shone from the main image. By imperial decree, the temple was named Komyoji (Temple of Bright Light). During the Pacific War, the temple was relocated to its current site, and the buildings were reconstructed.
