Enbunji Temple
名古屋市北区4
A Nichiren sect temple located in Nishi Ward, Nagoya City, with the mountain name Chokyu-san. The Entonji shopping street is formed in the surrounding area.
History
Founded in 1654 CE (Jōō 3) by Fukei-in Nichigon, it was renamed Chokyu-san Entonji in 1655 CE (Meiryaku 2) as a branch temple of Ritsuhonji. It subsequently deepened its ties with the Owari Tokugawa family and received many gifts during the Genroku era, but the entire mountain was destroyed by a great fire in 1724 CE (Kyōhō 9), leading to its relocation to the current site. A new hall was built in 1888 CE (Meiji 21), but it was completely burned down in the 1945 CE (Shōwa 20) Nagoya air raid and was rebuilt by 1953 CE (Shōwa 28).
