History
Osojō Yamana Shunki established the temple to console the spirits of those who died at the execution ground of the former Denma-machi prison. It was founded in 1875 with donations from Okura Kihei and Yasuda Shōjirō. In 1883, a statue of Kōbō Daishi was transferred from Koyasan, and the temple adopted the mountain name Shin-Koyasan. The buildings were destroyed in the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake but were rebuilt to their current scale in 1929.
