History

The founding date is unknown, but its origins trace back to Sakamoto Tamemaro inviting the deities of Usa Jingu to his headquarters. During the Muromachi period, the Osaki clan relocated the shrine within their domain. In 1604 (Keicho 9), Date Masamune began constructing the shrine at the northwest corner of Sendai Castle, and in 1607 (Keicho 12), it was merged with Nariake Hachimangu. With the establishment of the modern shrine ranking system in 1871 (Meiji 4), it was renamed Osaki Hachimangusha.
