A Jodo-shu (Pure Land) temple located in Oyamazaki, Kyoto Prefecture. Its mountain name is Kenbutsu-zan (Mountain of Seeing the Buddha). It is situated at the foot of Mount Tenno, just below Hojuji Temple.
History
Founded in 1555 CE (Koji 1) during the late Muromachi period by Ijiri Tajimamori Nagasuke. The founding abbot (Kaizan) was Tokuyo Kōnen, who was invited from Chion-in. The original buildings were destroyed by fire during the Kinmon Incident, but were later rebuilt and remain to this day.
