It is said to have been founded in 1578 CE (Tenshō 6) as Oizumi-an. It is a branch temple of Chōfuku-ji. It was rebuilt in 1789 CE (Kansei 1) by Sōryū and serves as the memorial site for Kakumyō, the founding abbot of Kiso Ontake-san.
