History
Established in 1695 CE (Genroku 8) by Ii Naomitsu, the lord of the Himeji domain, to ensure the stability of the domain and to console the spirits of the castle's former lords. Local carpenters from Kōra, who had been involved in the renovation of Nikkō Tōshō-gū, were mobilized for the construction. Due to its luxurious architectural style, it is also known as the 'Nikkō of Himeji.'

What visitors say
The approach path involves climbing mountain trails and steep stairs; the narrow and rugged terrain makes visiting by car recommended. From the mountain gate, one can enjoy a beautiful view of Himeji Castle and Lake Biwa framed like a picture. Wild animals such as monkeys and hummingbirds can also be seen within the temple grounds.
