In 1331 CE (Genkō 1), Utsunomiya Toyofusa constructed Ozu Castle and enshrined the deity from Futarasan Shrine in Mōshu Province as the castle's chief guardian deity, initially established as Tarō-miya. Later, Katō Sadayasu designated it as a place of prayer, and it received the deep devotion of successive feudal lords, who oversaw the construction and restoration of the shrine grounds and buildings. It was eventually classified as a former prefectural shrine (Kyōsha).
