History
The founding date is unknown, but since Ohata separated from Oba to form its own village, it has been worshipped as the protective shrine of Ohata Village. During the Edo period, the 'Yattari Dance' began to be offered as a dedication, stemming from a dispute over labor duties for the sankin-kotai (alternate attendance system) that was settled through sumo wrestling. In 1910 (Meiji 43), the Kamabetsu Raiko Shrine located in Nishishita Mota and the Kushima Shrine located in Mae were merged into this shrine.
