Founded in 995 CE by the monk Seison. Initially located about 500 meters east of its current site, it was known as Imaizumi-ji. In 1374 CE, it was relocated by the lord of Odagawa Castle and renamed Daishoji. By 1526 CE, it had returned to its current location and reverted to the name Imaizumi-ji, but by 1576 CE, it was renamed Daishoji once again.
