Originally the Zanbut-dō (Hall of Praise for the Buddha) at the Sakamoto Tōshō-gū (Sakamoto Tōshō Shrine) on the eastern foot of the mountain, it was relocated to its current site in 1964 CE (Shōwa 39). The former Great Lecture Hall, which had been designated an Important Cultural Property, was destroyed by arson in 1956 CE (Shōwa 31).
